Insomnia is a condition I’ve struggled with for years. I’ve tried every tea, meditation, and audioguide but sleep simply escapes me. As an artist with a flexible schedule, I’ve been able to adapt to the effects of insomnia. I often find myself up till sunlight, I spend that time working. Embroidery is a practice I find solace in and I can only hope other fellow insomniacs find their version of “embroidery”.
Through my work, I often depict my emotions visually whenever I lack words. This print “Insomnia” is exactly that; a visual representation of how this condition makes me feel. The cost of insomnia has made me feel never completely present and sometimes agitated.
My first time in Idem Paris was in 2015, I spent my time there as an observer, watching some of the finest lithographers in the world work in a century-old printing studio. I’ve since worked with them in many capacities; hosting my first solo exhibition, and subsequent group shows, but it wasn’t until this year that I sat down in their studio, ink in hand to paint on my first litho stone
Guided by their expertise, I have transferred my sketch onto stone, replicating my work into a lithograph. This is a print I am proud of and happy to share with you. ”Insomnia” published by Idem Paris, will be available on both Cultprint and Idem Paris platforms.
